Well, that turned out to be a LOT easier than I had expected!

Apart from poor old Peter, we had everyone in IRC around 8pm. A few downloads later and we had some fun on ET (at least, I think everyone had some fun!). Thanks for showing up - we made progress much quicker than I expected!

Some decisions were made, as follows:

FPS game of choice = Quake3 (OSP and Rocket Arena mods also required)
RTS game of choice = Starcraft (we're all newbies to this game, so it should be an even learning curve)
Team-based game of choice = Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (we've started with it, and it's a free download!)We didn't decide on an MMORPG of choice and perhaps we won't need to - I suspect that the games above will keep us quite busy for a few weeks.

Can you please ensure that, for next Thursday, you have all three of the above games installed and patched to the current version. I don't know if Starcraft can be played over the internets? If not, we may need to install Kali to trick the software into thinking we're all on the same IPX network. I will investigate this and obtain the required software to share if necessary.

Also, this isn't an exhaustive list of games! If anyone has a particular preference or suggestion, please feel free to speak up. Also, if we get a few weeks in and decide that we don't really like a particular game, we'll replace it with something more fun!

Finally, it would be great if we could continue to expand our numbers. I'd really like, for example, to set ourselves the goal of always having 10 people there each week! This would let us run Q3 team deathmatches, Q3 capture-the-flag, ET games without filling slots with members of the public, etc... It's a tough target - if we assume that any given week will lead to 25% of us not being able to participate, it means we need a "roster" of at least 12 players. We have 4 (5 if Peter gets IRC to work ;)). I know I can get another 2 participants very easily and I'll start asking around for more (as an aside - I know Q3 exists for the Mac. Do Starcraft and ET?). If you guys could cast your nets and see how many more we can pull in it would be much appreciated. If the 4 of us bring in 2 players each, we have our minimum roster of 12...

So - thanks for the fun last night. It was great to play again!

Right...

first off, THANKS for the fun!
Was soooo refreshing to play with/agaist you guys again.

As you all know by now, my clan has an ET server and I like this game a lot. The thing with ET is, it´s getting better and better with more players. We´re hosting a public server to ensure that there are always enough people online.

There will be a Q3 server available as soon as possible, with all required mods, mainly osp and RA. I`ll hand out details as soon as the servers are up and running.

I know that a few people from nOiD are old skool Q3 players, so I might have the chance to pull 2-3 people into the pool.. not sure though.
