View Full Version : Guild tax rate increasing

Hi all,

As of Monday the 18th of May, the guild tax rate will increase to 12%.

This increase is a direct attempt to boost the gold in the guild bank account to ensure that we can claim and upgrade keeps. These claimed keeps provide a focus for our RvR activity, they significantly raise our profile within the game community, they generate lots of additional guild XP for us and they can even provide us with gold bag loot!

Please note that the guild tax only affects coin looted from mobs and from enemy players in RvR! Your cash from selling items is untaxed. Your cash from auctioning items is untaxed. Your cash from completing quests is untaxed. Your overall cash flow as an individual will be trivially decreased, but the overall benefit to the guild will be large (as those hundreds and thousands of silver coins all add up).

The guild officers also request that guild members in T4 should also tithe 40-60% of their income! Again, the tithe only affects cash looted from mobs (not auctions, quests, sold items, etc). We know that an active T4 player tithing 80% of their income to the guild ends up donating 10-20g per month. You can see that setting a very high tithe rate will make little difference to your personal income. Obviously, we cannot (and will not) actively enforce a tithe rate, but since the players in T4 are the ones having the fun of attacking, claiming, upgrading and defending our keeps we feel it is fair for these same players to contribute more gold towards their upkeep. Please set your tithe rate and encourage others to do the same!

Finally, any donations to the guild bank account are very, very gratefully received. If you are sitting on a large pile of gold, wondering what to do with it, please consider putting it into the guild bank. Already a number of generous members have contributed in this way. Anyone wishing to donate gold can mail it in-game to me personally and I will deposit it into the guild bank.

Basically, the guild needs gold in order to sustain its high profile in the RvR battlefields. We hope that you all understand that this tax increase is being made solely to provide even more fun and activity for our guild. If any member finds themselves struggling for gold (for whatever reason) they should send a note to me (or a Captain) and we will be sure to help you out.

Please publicise this change in guild chat (and if someone could change the guild MotD to inform everyone of the impending tax increase I'd much appreciate it). Thanks in advance for your understanding of this necessary change.

And players killed in pvp :p

No problems! I have not found any use for the gold anyway :D Just need to find out how to set up personal tithe level...

And BTW.. We can always hire those little chinese farmers, if things go downhill :D

Tithe rate can be set in the Guild interface (hit 'G' to bring up the guild window). Under the "Rewards" area, there should be a section to set your tithe rate (or there was in the past, don't know if this has changed since 1.2.1 - perhaps someone can confirm and/or post a screenshot?).

Note that there are also some Curse Client add-ons that track how much you have tithed in total. For example, search for "Tithe Tracker" in the Curse Client, install it and watch how much gold you feed into the guild bank! This should also be useful in helping you decide what the right level of tithing is for you.

Finally, thanks for your correction on the income sources that are taxed. I'll edit my original post right now. :)

the improved guild interface since 1.02 (or whatever the number was) has a tithe an renown counter as well, so no more need for the add-on :)

Its not that easy to find since it just looks like yellow text rather than a button or something, its on the 'Manage' tab - look for the yellow text bottom left that shows tax and tithe rate.

I remember my days of star wars galaxies and trying to fund my city maintanance . This became a large and consistant problem and in the end I used to set up town raids where anything looted would be sold for the sake of the town vault . Maybe mass guild farming sessions , for example in BS we could go farm cloaks and anything scavenged ect sold on the AH and the proceeds then put into the guild bank.
With the co-orperation of enough people it wouldnt take very long to farm a good 500gp ect in large bursts for the guild in such ways , I can see that gold is now becoming more of a necesity for the guild and its rvr so will endevour to start such groups in game , any help from high level charectors who have time to spare will speed up this process so give me a shout in game if anyone is interested in helping.

Really good idea and one that I would encourage very much! Anything that we can do together (as a community) that provides some fun for the guild while simultaneously generating gold for our RvR activities is a brilliant idea.

I know some of the guild officers are very keen to raise guild funds in exactly this way. I'm sure you'll get enough support to make this a worthwhile initiative.

As well as auctioning loot, remember that you could also request everyone on the farming run to temporarily tithe 100% - then all coin from the raid will also go straight into the guild bank account.

Nice initiative, I hope it helps boost our gold! :D

Just a reminder that the tax rate will be increasing tonight (around 8pm UK time, when I get online).

If anyone notices a significant impact on their personal income, please contact me directly. If enough people complain, I will consider reversing the tax rate back down to 6%.

If any guildies ask why the tax rate has increased, please refer them to this thread (or repeat the information to the in guild chat). I hope we can quickly and painlessly make the transition to a 15% tax rate and then start to increase our keep-claiming activities. :)

Thanks!

Guild tax rate has now been increased to 12% Slightly below what was initially announced, so I hope you will all monitor the impact of this change and let me know if it causes problems. T4 members: please tithe! Thanks. :)

We should start massive pve gp grinding sessions then. Oh and what you think of collecting broken items and sending them to lower levels?

Dont forget we also have the potion shop to support the guild coffers ! :)

Great ideas. Would you (or any other members, ofc) be willing to start and lead the gold-farming events? This initiative probably doesn't need to be very regular - perhaps just once per month. But I think it will take a wee bit of work to figure out the optimal farming location with lots of gold-rich, low-level mobs for AoE farming.

I'd suggest we do a test gold-farming event for one or two hours and calculate how much gold per hour this provides for the guild. Once we have this data, we can estimate how frequently we need to host these events.

First one to offer hosting the gold-farming sessions wins a cookie! ;)

I have no AoE speced characters unfortunately =\ Yet leveling an engineer (14th level currently). I can take part as a healer (RP 40th)
Grind locations should be filled with melee mobs or in case ranged-type mobs be filled with multiple obstacles to lure them in. I'd prefer the first but I believe ranged classes have reduced defences.
To think of it there is a nice place near to Caledor WC with dark elven sorcs summonning 4-5 additional melee guards. The respawn rate in pretty high and drops are about 2 silver per mob.

I am ready to host gold-farming sessions. I know few spots, I am great at AoE (KotBS), and I need 2 more levels to grind anyway =)

Maybe I'll try to host one tomorrow or friday. Depends on the people's feedback.

I suggest a chap 22 dark elf Pq with lots of humanoids wich you can also scavenge for fragments, wich we can sell :)

KotBS plus two BW/Engi (and a healer out of group if PLing) sounds about ideal. :) i am sure a few hours of grinding per month in conjunction with taxes would pay for our keeps. Draligan, do you want to arrange a date, time and spam for guildie helpers of the right class? If you are willing, please post in the events forum. :)

I'll post about this separately once I've thought it through properly, but it's relevant here so I'll quickly mention it: the guild vault will be cleared out on a regular basis, and items (except very high-level ones) will be auctioned off to the larger Order population. This should help support the guild coffers too.
